ARCTiC Rising Star Seminar – Sebastian Hofer

by

Presenter: Sebastian Hofer (Max-Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, Germany)

When: Tuesday 4th March, 15:00-16:00

Where: Online webinar via zoom that is streamed in the Radium Hospital LU1 auditorium, followed by cake and coffee/tea.

Our first Rising Star is Sebastian Hofer(Max-Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, Germany), who presents his recent first author publication Spermidine is essential for fasting-mediated autophagy and longevity (Nat Cell Biol, 2024).

Sebastian completed his PhD in October 2019 in Frank Madeo’s group (Graz University of Technology and Karl-Franzens University, Austria), where he studied the effects of intermittent fasting in healthy volunteers (Stekovic, Hofer, Tripolt et al. Cell Metabolism, 2019), and explored mitochondrial function in aging neuronal tissue of Drosophila and mice (Schroeder, Hofer, et al. Cell Reports, 2021).

Having secured several independent research grants, he then undertook a joint postdoctoral position between Frank Madeo’s group and Guido Kroemer’s group, where he investigated the conserved role of polyamines in autophagy regulation during nutrient deprivation (Hofer et al. Nature Cell Biology, 2024).

Since March 2024, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Max-Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany, working with Katja Simon. His current research focuses on the metabolic regulation of autophagy, particularly in aging immune cells.
